Zimbabwe last played a friendly in November 2018 when they toured Bangladesh for a two-match series and coach Lalchand Rajput welcomed the effort and helped his charges seize the opportunity. “We know our home environment very well, our players are getting ready for the game and getting some playing time. All we have to do is go out and give a concert,” he said. “We haven’t had much time to play, so the players are very keen to take advantage of this opportunity and get good results.”

Zimbabwe last played Sri Lanka in a friendly at the R-Premadasa Stadium in Colombo in July 2017, where the hosts won by four wickets after recording the most successful comeback in Asia.

Zimbabwe will begin their preparations for the series tomorrow with a ten-day training camp that will feature the best players from the Logan Cup, the premier domestic competition. “In top-flight cricket it’s very important to have players who perform well and I’m delighted that in the Logan Cup we have players who have shot centuries and won five and overs.”
