Virat Kohli, while addressing a press conference ahead of the India-New Zealand T20 World Cup match, lashed out at online trolls after player Mohamed Shami was subjected to online abuse following India’s defeat.

“There is a good reason why we are playing the field and not some fragile people on social media who don’t have the guts to talk to anyone,” Kohli said during a press conference here.

“This is the lowest level human form, and attacking someone because of religion is the most pathetic thing humans can do.

“I never thought about discrimination on the basis of religion. This is something very sacred. Our brotherhood and friendship cannot be shaken… These things cannot be sneaked in. I give credit to those who understand us,” he added.

“We do what we do on the field and none of these people (social media trolls) imagine themselves doing something like that. They don’t have the guts or backbone to do it. That’s the way I see it. As a group, we understand.” How we should stick together, how we should support people, how we should focus on our strengths and whether people abroad are portraying the fact that India cannot afford to lose cricket.
