The Indian team was an underdog when they started their World Cup campaign in 1983. Kapil Dev was the captain of the tournament. Little did everyone know that the man from Chandigarh was all set to lift the Lord’s trophy. Kapil Dev’s batting prowess came to the fore in the match against Zimbabwe when India were in deep trouble at 17-5. Then the captain arrived and scored 175 to take control of the game and give India more of a chance to win. But the West Indies are once again marked as favourites. They reached the final for the third time in a row and for the first time for India.
India batted early and were all out for just 183. Everyone thought this was a cake for Wendy, and Vivi Richards does just that. But one catch changed the course of the game as Kapil Dev raced almost 40 yards from the circle to the boundary for a brilliant catch that removed Vivi Richard. Although he didn’t have a World Cup spectacular, his brilliant performance in the final made him Australia’s first world champion. England looked to be chasing a target of 254 with ease, but Allan pulled himself into the attack with a boundary that was as unusual as it was uncharacteristic. But the boundary decision turned to gold and found the informative batsman Mike Gatting, which ultimately led to the collapse of England’s innings. This made Australia the third team to win the World Cup by 7 runs.

Every Pakistani remembers the name Imran Khan. He is the best captain and all-rounder that Pakistan has ever produced. The only time Pakistan tasted World Cup victory was in 2011. He is known for his motivational skills and speeches to his teammates. He called his team the “Cornered Tigers,” but they played like a roaring tiger. Experts believed that Pakistan would not have won the 1992 World Cup if Imran had not been captain or part of the squad. He played as a decent batsman rather than a bowler. He scored a 37-ball 60 to help Pakistan beat New Zealand in the semi-finals. Australia’s golden era began with the 99th World Cup victory. Years later, when Steve Waugh retired from cricket, Ricky Ponting was appointed captain of Australia’s main team.
