The Indian team lost the toss and scored 237 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Opener Suryakumar Yadav scored a 22-ball 61, while KL Rahul (57 off 28), Virat Kohli (49* off 26), and Rohit Sharma (43 off 37) also contributed well.

South Africa overcame a poor start as David Miller (106 off 47*) and Quinton de Kock (69 off 48*) forged an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 174 runs. However, the Proteas were always behind in the chase and despite some excellent batting from both of them, especially Miller, they ended up with 221 for 3.

When Enrich Nortje was introduced in the next over, Rahul hit a six over deep square leg. The snake stopped the game early in the eighth quarter, but India’s momentum did not stop.
