T20 World Cup: India Vs South Africa
The cricket calendar has had to be revised several times since last year’s Covid-19 epidemic. While international cricket seems to have found its rhythm back, South Africa’s tour of India this year has reportedly been postponed now as it clashes with Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 14 Phase 2.
South Africa are scheduled to visit India for the second series in September ahead of the T20 World Cup. Both the teams are scheduled to play 3 ODIs and several T20Is before the exhibition event. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) planning to schedule the rest of the IPL 2021 between September and October, the South African series is something to chase.
“This process cannot be done and in any case there can be no better preparation for the T20 World Cup than a tough tournament like the IPL. Since the T20 World Cup starts a week or ten days after the IPL, the SA series can only be played on other days.
“There is a possibility that India will play more matches in the tour of South Africa early next year,” the sources said.

The Indian team will conclude their England tour on September 14 and resume IPL 2021 on September 19 or 20. Soon after the T20 tournament, the ICC T20 World Cup will begin in mid-October. Such a tight schedule leaves the BCCI with a window into the South African system.
With the T20 World Cup yet to end, there is talk that the Test series between India and New Zealand, scheduled to be played in November this year, may also change.
As for IPL 2021, the tournament may be held in the United Arab Emirates, while the T20 World Cup may be held in the Middle East.
When the second series doesn’t happen, South African players like Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada etc. are available for the IPL. Although some other foreign stars from Australia and England may not be available due to their international schedule.
