Ipl 2023 Orange Cap: Most Runs So Far This Season

After Monday’s tough knockout match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), which turned out to be a tough fight with both teams playing well, there have been several changes in the points table, the Orange Cap and the purple cap.

In Monday’s match at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) scored a thrilling last-ball victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS), thanks to Rinku Singh’s finishing prowess.

Rinku’s brilliant 10-ball 21 in the last over helped KKR chase down a score of 180, with captain Nitish Rana’s half-century and Andre Russell’s strong 42 off 23. Only Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar were able to reduce KKR’s run rate, Nitish took two wickets including a runner while Chahar was on 51.

Earlier, PBKS opted to bat first and posted a sluggish 179 for seven, with Shikhar Dhawan scoring a fifty-plus innings of 57 off 47 balls. KKR’s enigmatic spinner Varun Chakraborty picked up three wickets and conceded just 26 runs in his quota of four overs. With this win, KKR moved to fifth place in the points table.

After their last-ball win against PBKS, KKR climbed to the fifth spot on the points table with 10 points. This result makes the race for the playoffs even more interesting, as the five teams in the middle of the table currently share the same number of points (10).

At the top of the points table, Gujarat Titans (GT) lead the group with 16 points, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are second, three points behind GT. Third-placed Lucknow Super Giants are one point ahead of the other teams in the table (11).

KKR’s Rinku Singh is the 10th highest run-scorer with 337 runs, while PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan is ninth with 349 runs. No other changes to the list.

The Orange Cap, awarded to the highest run-scorer in the tournament, is currently held by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis, who has scored 511 runs in 10 matches. Rajasthan Royals young debutant Yasaswi Jaiswal is second with 477 runs at a strike rate of 160.60.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohammad Shami currently holds the purple cap, having taken 17 wickets this season.

Leg-spinner Rashid Khan and CSK pacer Tushar Deshpande also have 17 wickets, but their economy rates are higher than Shami’s.

Mumbai Indians comfortably beat Lucknow Supergiants by 81 runs at Chepauk in an eliminator game of IPL 2023. Lucknow Supergiants’ chase was complete chaos. The young and spirited Akash Madhwal of Mumbai was very intimidated on the field in Lucknow. Akash Madhwal bowled a brilliant spell in 3.3 overs (5/5) to take Mumbai into Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans. Chasing 183, Lucknow lost three wickets in a run-out comedy of errors. There was a big difference between these groups. Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda and Krishnappa Gowtham lost their wickets while running between the wickets. Gill will have a great chance to win Faf’s orange cap in the next game. Faf’s opening partner Virat Kohli is third on the list with 639 runs. Rajasthan Royals opener Yasaswi Jaiswal is fourth with 625 runs while Devon Conway also has 625 runs but will have a chance to reach the final. He finished 5th in the race.

Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami leads the race for the purple cap. Shami currently holds the purple cap with 26 wickets in 15 matches. Shami has been a great carrier for the Titans in the powerplay. His teammate Rashid Khan challenges him with 25 wickets and is second on the list. Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is third on the list with 21 wickets. Chahal was the winner of the Purple Cap in IPL 2022. Mumbai’s Piyush Chawla took a wicket against Lucknow Super Giants. Chawla now has 21 wickets in IPL 2023 and is fourth on the list. Chennai’s Tushar Deshpande finished fifth with 21 wickets.
