Michael Vaughan, who advised India to “swallow their pride and follow England”, said it would be “absolutely impossible” for hosts India to be favorites for the ODI World Cup next year
England became the first team to become the defending champions of the ODI World Cup and the T20I World Cup. They beat New Zealand to win the ODI World Cup 2019 at home. A few nights ago, they beat Pakistan to win their second T20 World Cup title. Their dominance in limited-overs cricket has sparked a debate about whether they are the best white-ball team the gentleman’s game has ever seen. In addition to the recent double world cup victories, there are many other arguments in their favor. After the 2015 ODI World Cup foray, England’s white-ball team underwent a sea change. The immediate result was a run to the final of the 2016 T20 World Cup in India, where they lost to eventual champions West Indies in a last-gasp thriller.
India To Host Next ICC T20 World Cup In 2021, Australia Get 2022 Edition
In the last five ICC events in white-ball cricket, England have reached the final three times, winning two of them. Amidst all this, they have also been in the top three in the ODI and T20I rankings consistently and have been largely responsible for revolutionizing white-ball cricket with their all-out attacking mindset.
Based on all these factors, former England captain Michael Vaughan said that the Jos Buttler-led team will be heavy favorites to win the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. The former batsman, who advised India to “swallow their pride and follow England”, went on to say that it would be “absolutely impossible” for hosts India to be favorites for the event. of next year.
“The next big ticket is to win the 50 World Cup in India next year. They have good spin options and you have to call them as favorites for this tournament. When the tournament starts, people will have India com ‘and home favourites. Earth. Total. nonsense. England will be the team to beat without question. They will beat them and will be like that for a few years,’ Vaughan wrote in the Daily Telegraph.
It should be noted that India were the winners the last time the ODI World Cup was held in their territory in 2011. But since then they have not won any World Cup. Their last ICC trophy was almost a decade ago in 2013 when MS Dhoni led them to the Champions Trophy title.
Which Country Will Host The 2023 Cricket World Cup
This group of English white-ballers is extraordinary and for once English cricket has a trendsetting team that the rest of the world should emulate.
“How are England going about their business? What are they doing? If I was in charge of Australia, I would be all over Mike Hussey, who was England’s coach in this tournament, asking what they are doing behind the scenes. I was running Indian cricket, I swallowed my pride and looked to England for inspiration.” – he added.
