“It was always going to be a very difficult decision to reduce the squad from 18 to 15 – every player in Dubai at the moment has shown their ability and earned their chance,” said Andrew White, chairman of national men’s selectors. “The three players who were left out will continue to play a role in supporting the core team and remain in the team bubble as protection in case of injury or illness.”

“We are confident that the squad of selected players have the skill and determination to take us to the next round of the tournament, but ultimately it will be about putting together the performances they deserve. We wish Fordy and the boys the best for the challenge ahead and we are sure he will do Irish cricket proud.”
Ireland open their campaign against Holland in the first round of the tournament on October 18. They will also face Sri Lanka and Namibia in Group A, with the top two teams advancing to the Super12 stages.
