It was a full start for Shreyas Iyer as captain of Kolkata Knight Riders as the team recorded an emphatic six-wicket win over defending champions Chennai Super Kings. After restricting CSK to 131/5 in 20 overs, the Cavaliers chased down the target with nine balls to spare as new CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja endured a tough game in his first outing as captain.

Yet even as CSK faced a heavy loss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni – the team’s former captain – stole the show with an impressive unbeaten half-century as he bounced back in style after years. Dhoni came when CSK were reeling at 61/5 in 10.5 overs. The keeper-batsman then scored 50 of CSK’s next 70 runs to get the side respectable.
With an unbeaten half-century from 38 deliveries, Dhoni not only holds the Orange Cap but is also the only player in the game to score a fifty. Ajinkya Rahane came closest to the former Chennai Super Kings skipper with an important 44 off 34 deliveries as he opened the innings for KKR.

Umesh Yadav, who produced a brilliant opening spell against CSK (where he dismissed openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway), is the second.

IPL 2022 points table, Orange Cap and Purple Cap lists updated: Two LSG stars among top 5 in runs list
IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants registered a brilliant win over Chennai Super Kings to climb the points table on Thursday.
The day before, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played out a low-scoring thriller in IPL 2022. It was a back-to-back game on Thursday – but a thriller nonetheless. A total of 421 runs was scored as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured their first win in the Indian Premier League, defeating defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a brilliant 211-run chase at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

With contributions from Robin Uthappa (50), Moeen Ali (35) and Shivam Dube (49), CSK posted a strong score of 210/7 in 20 overs. However, LSG were not deterred from the big run as captain KL Rahul (40) and Quinton de Kock (61) gave the team a bright start. With 34 needed from 12 deliveries, the duo of Evin Lewis (55*) and Ayush Badoni (19*) plundered 25 runs from Shivam Dube to take the game away from CSK.
With their first win of the season, Lucknow climbed to the sixth position in the table despite their Net Run Rate (NRR) being just below zero (-0.011). Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja’s Chennai Super Kings are languishing at the eighth position with an NRR of -0.528. Rajasthan Royals, thanks to a 61-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this week, remain at the top of the table.
Two Lucknow Super Giants players have made it to the top 5 in the run chart – Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni. Robin Uthappa, who scored a half-century when he came for CSK against LSG, has jumped to the third position while RCB captain Faf du Plessis remains at the top.
There are no major changes in the Purple Cap list, except for CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo who made it to the top-5 as he is in the third position with four wickets. Bravo took figures of 1/35 in four overs to surpass Lasith Malinga’s record of 170 wickets in Indian Premier League history.

Opener Jos Buttler hit his maiden Indian Premier League 2022 century on Saturday as Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 23 runs to register their second consecutive win of the season. At the DY Patil Stadium, Buttler was out for 100 off 68 balls as Rajasthan cruised to 193-8. In the second match of the day, Delhi Capitals faced a heavy defeat as the Rishabh Pant-led team succumbed to a 14-run loss against Gujarat Titans. Shubman Gill was the star of the game for the Gujarat side, smashing 84 off just 46 deliveries to guide the side to 171/6. In reply, DC could only manage 157/9.
With an emphatic win over five-time champions Mumbai, Rajasthan Royals returned to the top spot with a handsome Net Run Rate (NRR) of 2,100. Meanwhile, the Titans climbed to the third spot, while Kolkata Knight Riders – the only side to have played three games in the tournament so far – they are second with four points.

Kishan enjoys a better strike rate (148.35) compared to Buttler (140.62) as the MI youngster took the top spot.
Umesh Yadav holds the top wicket position in IPL 2022 with eight scalps in three matches. However, there have been significant changes at No. 2 and No. 3, with RR’s Yuzvendra Chahal and GT’s Mohammed Shami claiming the spot.
