Ipl Cricket – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) once opposed the idea of a cricket league. But over time, the board’s initiative in the form of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has dramatically changed the face of cricket and the fortunes of its players.
The truly exciting, thrilling and unforgettable matches of the IPL seasons will not be forgotten and cricket lovers will continue to experience the same nerve-racking experience while thinking about these thrilling matches. The IPL has proven itself uniquely with a series of exciting innings, be it Brendon McCullum or Chris Gayle’s brutal and devastating innings, all played out with a huge final knock in the match. The six-pointer recorded the win.

And who can forget Brendon McCullum’s brilliant innings in Bengaluru’s inaugural IPL at the Chinnaswamy Stadium when he scored 158 runs to thrash KKR at home against RCB. Also, who can forget Chris Gayle’s century against Pune Warriors when he bowled RCB for a mere 30-ball 175. The innings came off 66 balls. Gayle hit 13 fours and 17 sixes.

In the 2011 IPL match between KKR and Mumbai Indians, at one point it looked like the former would win the match as it was the case that the latter needed 21 runs in the last over to win. But what happened was that New Zealander James Franklin set off the fireworks, hitting as many fours as Laxmipati Balaji and scoring one, followed by Amba Ambati Rajudu, who hit a six over the last ball reminiscent of Javed Miandad’s style. . That’s Mumbai Indians’ playbook for victory.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni scores in a thrilling match against Kings XI Punjab in an IPL match at Dharamshala in 2010. Dhoni’s side needed 16 in the end and got it off Irrfan Pathan’s first ball. Dhoni was still not out, with 54 off 29 balls. Dhoni was better again in IPL 2016 against Kings XI. Due to CSK’s ban, Dhoni joined Pune.
KKR lost to CSK in IPL 2018 despite scoring over 200 runs. CSK needed 17 runs in the last game to win. Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja hit sixes in Vinay Kumar’s final over, hitting the wicket with ease. In the first inning of the game, Andre Russell’s strikeout was a sight to behold. Russell, at number seven, had an excellent innings, dismissing 88 balls, 11 of which were sixes. But unfortunately, his offense can bring victory to his team.
There is no shortage of exciting, popular games like this one. Let’s look forward to countless such exciting, energetic, exciting matches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. It wouldn’t be too cynical to say that the introduction of the ‘impact player’ rule was a result of India’s player base.

Indian Premier League (IPL) teams will be allowed to name five substitutes, one of whom can come on as a substitute at any stage of the game if the match is over or a wicket has just fallen. Impact players have to be Indian so you can’t swap one overseas player for another. However, if there are only three overseas players in the starting XI, then a fourth player can play in place of the Indian player.

The main use and easiest way to use this rule (especially for teams that are generally happy with their starting line-up) is to bring professional batsmen to professional bowlers when the time is right and vice versa. Delhi Capitals can use this rule to achieve some balance. Starting with Manish Pandey or Chetan Sakariya depending on the batting or bowling and replacing the other seems to be the way to manage two one-dimensional cricketers. Gujarat Titans could opt for a similar strategy but with Abhinav Manohar and Mohammad Shami; Mumbai Indians Vishnu Vinod and Hrithik So is Hrithik Shokeen.

Other teams may not even see the need to change the balance. Chennai Super Kings, for example, look apt to simply bring in a batsman for the dismissed batsmen (increasing their batting depth) as they have plenty of all-rounders, so the starting XI can have a rich bowler. Instead, some teams may use this rule to exclude so-called “balanced” players from their starting lineup. RCB could consider the role of someone like Shahbaz Ahmed – who is neither a four-ball banker nor a major threat with the bat – and use him as a placeholder for By’s obviously more useful role. The Lucknow supergiants could do something similar given their all-round output.
There are more creative ways to use the influence player, and some parties will make good use of it. If Hyderabad Sunrises hadn’t spent so much money on Harry Brooks – setting him up and playing him – then Aiden Markram’s side would only be fit with three overseas players (Markram, Klaassen/Phillips) at the start.
However, this rule should not be viewed uncritically. Of course, changes in the format of cricket are nothing new. Overs are of eight, six, five balls, and top-level cricket has matches of various lengths, from no-overs to 60 balls. However, apart from the brief but notable exception to the super-substitution rule in ODIs, the one real constant has been the lack of tactical substitutions – even those due to injury have been relatively recent. The X-Factor player in BBL was a brief experiment that was widely ignored by the team and implemented alongside other “gimmicks” such as Bash Boost and Power Surge.
It would not be too cynical to say that the introduction of this rule was a result of the Indian player base. A wide range of powerful and graceful batsmen, increasingly consistent bowlers with increasing pace, strong spin bowling depth, but one area where India have struggled to get enough elite talent is the all-rounders. Only four players in the IPL have recorded a positive batting impact (a CricViz metric for white-ball cricket) as well as a positive bowling impact in the last three years: Moeen Ali, Rashid Khan, Jofra Archer and Hardik Pandya. Only one Indian has recorded the true all-rounder’s stats across 10 teams and nearly 100 Indians and that is disappointing.

The implementation of the IP rule makes this lack of special talent less important and less likely to hurt the look and feel of the game. Keeping this in mind, it was a smart move by the IPL decision makers. Also, it’s never a bad thing for a country to manipulate the rules of their domestic league for macro gain. It can be said that this is the minimum that the board should stretch.
It could also be argued that identifying weaknesses in a group of players and making changes to the league that would reduce the opportunity for those players to develop is an abuse of opportunity. Given the political dynamics of global cricket, it is reasonable to assume that the rule will somehow find its way into international cricket, so perhaps the ongoing lack of depth in India’s all-rounders may unduly affect their performances. Performance in world events – but it’s a gamble.
