IND vs NZ, 1st ODI Highlights: Michael Bracewell scored a stunning century as he gave India a big scare in Hyderabad as he scored 140 that almost dragged New Zealand to an unlikely series win. From the depths of 131/6, Bracewell joined hands with Mitchell Centner (57) to revive the chase, but fell in the final over as New Zealand were bowled out for 337. India won by 12 runs. Earlier, Ishan Kishan’s record of the youngest man to score an ODI double was just over a month old as his Indian teammate Shubman Gill broke it during the first ODI against New Zealand now in Hyderabad. At 23, Gill scored his debut

Michael Bracewell will remember this day but with some sadness. He produced one of the most memorable innings in ODI history by almost dragging New Zealand out of a hopeless position to set up a near-epic run chase in Hyderabad that threatened to push Shubman Gill’s record double century into the background. India were in a comfortable place, perhaps too comfortable as they reduced the visitors to 131/6 while defending Hyderabad’s 349. They were stunned when Bracewell revived the chase, igniting the contest with some fearless hitting to reach a blistering hundred. Along with Mitchell Santner, who hit a quality half-century, Bracewell added 162 runs for the seventh wicket which worried Indian captain Rohit Sharma. However, late in the chase, Mohammad Siraj scored twice in the same lead to tip the balance in his side’s favor but Bracewell did not back down. He continued the killing and pushed the game to the end. A three off the first delivery unsettled Rohit but a wide delivery later, Shardul Thakur trapped Bracewell for 140 to seal a 12-run win. This was after Gill became the youngest male player to hit an ODI double-century as he scored 208 to take India to 349/8.

Wicket! Shardul Thakur finished the job with the dismissal of Michael Bracewell for 140. Bracewell started the over with a big six before Thakur played it wide. Then Thakur signaled his yorker to trap Bracewell LBW off a fumble which he expected to be checked. No edge and ball researcher agrees with the umpire on the field. New Zealand scored 337 in 49.2 overs. An unforgettable innings by Bracewell. India won by 12 runs and took a 1-0 lead.

Michael Bracewell continued the strike after taking a single in the 49th over. Amazing over by Hardik Pandya – just 4 runs in this one. New Zealand 330/9, chasing 350.

Wicket! Hardik Padia has already scored a goal. Good change of pace as Lockie Ferguson cuts it enough to be caught by Shubman Gill for 8. New Zealand 328/9 in 48.3 overs, chasing 350.

Wicket! The century stand was destroyed. Huge relief for India when Mitchell Centner was bowled for 57 after a pull shot to break the ropes. Stand up 162. NZ 293/7 in 45.3 overs, chasing 350.

Hardik Pandya is back for a new charm. And the medium pacer started his spell well allowing just six runs in it. Good use in short delivery. New Zealand 291/6 in 45 overs, chasing 350.

11 runs from Mohammad Siraj’s over took New Zealand to 285/6 in 44 overs. Hardik Pandya was spotted getting treatment from the masseuse a few days ago. He’s back on the attack now.

Fifty! With back fours, Mitchell Santner brought up a 31-ball half-century. We’re all very focused on what Michael Bracewell is doing (and rightly so) but Santner is just as brilliant. Quietly, he built himself an extraordinary round.

Mitchell Santner ended Mohammad Shami’s streak with four covers. Strong ball from the left. This partnership left India in disarray. New Zealand need 76 from 42 now with four wickets to spare. India badly needs Vint here. Score 274/6 in 43 overs, chasing 350.

Hundreds! Amazing century for Michael Bracewell. Raised the milestone with a superb six by Mohammad Shami. It only took 57 deliveries to get there.

Finally some calm. Rohit Sharma turned his bowler on the night in search of a wicket. India did not get a wicket but Mohammad Siraj brought out a break in the scoring rate which allowed only four runs in the over. Michael Bracewell had 97 off 56 deliveries. NZ 260/6 in 42 overs, chasing 350.

Read more ODI double-century and became the youngest at the milestone. His stunning 208 from 149 propelled India to 349/8 in 50 overs after electing to bat first to open the series.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma elected to bat and again challenged his batsmen to raise a big total and his balls to defend under the lights (remember the dew factor). India may have swept Sri Lanka clean last week, but Rohit was under no illusions that there would be a similar challenge from New Zealand who had previously been successful in sub-continental conditions. And there’s a reason why the Kiwis are also the top-ranked ODI team in the world and they show it.

Ishan Kishan is expected to be included in the playing eleven in the upcoming ODI series against the tough New Zealand. KL Rahul’s unavailability due to personal reasons has opened up a slot for Kishan, but he may not be asked to open the three-match series. Kishan had to leave the Sri Lanka series despite scoring the fastest double century in ODI history, against Bangladesh in the previous series. Shubman Gill, rewarded for his consistency and ahead of Kishan to open alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, capitalized on the opportunities with scores of 70, 21 and 116 in the Sri Lanka series.

No changes are expected in the opening combination against the Black Caps but Rahul’s unavailability means Kishan is expected to continue with the wickets.

Kishan has batted in the middle order three times in the 10 ODIs he has played, so adjusting shouldn’t be a problem.

KS Bharat, who is the second goalkeeper in the lineup, may warm the bench.
