Imran Tahir Ipl 2023 – IPL 2023 | What explains Chennai Super Kings’ presence in 10 out of 16 Indian Premier League finals? The IPL started in 2008. Chennai Super Kings have made it to the top 4 every year till 2020. CSK won the trophy four times, the last time in 2021. 16 years later, they still have the same captain: M.S. Dhoni.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have missed out on two of the 16 seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) so far, in 2016 and 2017. Out of the other 14, he has now reached the final 10 times – including in 2023. IPL four times, and barring 2016 and 2017, there has never been two consecutive IPL finals that Chennai has not featured at least once. For perspective, no other team has reached the IPL finals even seven times – and some have played all 16 series.

The IPL started in 2008, but Chennai could only make it to the top four in 2020. They missed out again in 2022, but won the trophy in the 2021 season, this time reaching the final.
Consistent, lasting success did not happen overnight. In fact, it started even before cricketers went under the hammer for the first time in early 2008.
When the teams were put up for auction, India Cements bought the Chennai franchise for $91 million. This made them the fourth most expensive side after Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
While all eight teams had money and vision, what set Chennai apart was the owners’ experience in managing cricket teams. India Cements not only had its own office but also owned several clubs in the highly competitive Chennai cricket circuit.
Overseas Cricketers Who Will Work As Hindi Commentators In Ipl 2023
“They were already involved in managing cricket teams. CSK was the most prominent team they managed,” Rahul Dravid explained to Freddie Wilde and Tim Wigmore, the film’s authors.
Perhaps it was the sporting history that gave Chennai an edge over other teams at the first player sale in 2008.
Ahead of the auction, six of the eight franchises — with Chennai and Rajasthan Royals being the exceptions — awarded local superstars as “icon players” to make the teams more relatable to local fan bases. These cricketers earn 15 percent more than the most expensive cricketers bought by the respective teams. Among the icons, Sourav Ganguly retired from international cricket that same year. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, V.V.S. Laxman (who turned down an offer to become an iconic cricketer) and Virender Sehwag are leaving for 2013. In the auction, Rajasthan got Shane Warne, who retired from international cricket more than a year ago. In other words, six of the eight franchises had at least one expensive cricketer who was not expected to be around in five years.
Chennai did not have this baggage. They elected M.S. Dhoni, just over three years in international cricket. Kings XI Punjab icon Yuvraj Singh was the same age but Dhoni was chosen to captain India in the T20 World Cup instead of Yuvraj. In time, Yuvraj was sacked as captain of Punjab.

Without an aging superstar as a cricketer, Chennai are free to invest in their only long-term captaincy candidate. It wasn’t just any captain either: Dhoni had led India in their only World Cup in the same format just months before the auction. Chennai invested $1.5 million in Dhoni, but it was an investment that would pay dividends for them as well. None of the top eight captains in the IPL have led after 2013: a decade later, Dhoni is still at the top.
It wasn’t just a cricket decision. Until Dhoni, Chennai had famous cricketers – C.P. Johnstone, A.G. Ram Singh, V.V. Kumar, S. Venkataraghavan, Kris Srikkanth, W.V. Raman, Robin Singh, S. Ramesh – but none of them were global superstars. Dhoni became the face of Chennai cricket. It still is.
The captain ordered, Chennai set out to buy the others. His next expensive cricketers, Jacob Oram and Albie Morkel, reached US$675,000 (well below Dhoni’s price); Suresh Raina is priced at $650,000; and Muttiah Muralitharan US$600,000. These were their only investments of more than $400,000. In the same auction, many franchises chased the big names of international cricket, ignoring the fact that seven of the starting XI had to be Indians.
Raina was one of Chennai’s long-term investments, along with L. Balaji, S. Badrinath and R. Ashwin; and other Indians like Parthiv Patel, Sudeep Tyagi, Shadab Jakati, Joginder Sharma and Manpreet Gony.

They wanted to support everyone. Over time, they signed rising stars like Ravindra Jadeja and formed an Indian core that few franchises have matched in IPL history.
At this point, Rajasthan was perhaps the only franchise that understood the importance of investing in Indian cricketers for the long term rather than skimping on overseas superstars. “You can’t just rely on big-name players to win a tournament like the IPL. It’s too long and intense,” Morkel, one of Chennai’s early heroes, told Cricket Monthly.
Chennai, of course, got their stars from overseas, but when they did, they supported them and didn’t chop and change often: Muralitharan, Michael Hussey, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, Imran Tahir have been the franchise for a long time. .
It was no surprise that Rajasthan and Chennai met each other in the first final. If other teams realized where they went wrong, there was little they could do because there weren’t that many free Indian cricketers in the 2009 auction.

Over time, Chennai has developed its strategies around Chepauk’s slow and low surface and the fitness experiences that support it with considerable success.
But all this after emerging as the number one IPL team shining season after season. Their 1.42 win-loss ratio (130 wins, 91 losses) remains the best among teams that have played more than two seasons. Only Mumbai (1.31) comes close.
Although Chennai have reached the final more often, Mumbai’s five titles in 15 seasons are comparable to Chennai’s four in 13. Mumbai’s success started late but was built on the same principles.
They backed a young leader (Rohit Sharma), invested in Indian talent (Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik and Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav to Tilak Varma, Kumar Kartikeya, Nehal Wadhera and Akash Madhwal) and supported them heart to heart. they had to release it before the mega auctions. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had their toughest spell in the history of the IPL as they have won just 3 of their ten matches so far in the current season. They are currently at the bottom of the points table (IPL 2020) with six points. Their chances of making the playoffs are very rare and if that happens, it would be the first time in IPL history that CSK misses the playoffs despite playing in the season.

While many have criticized MS Dhoni for his poor performance this season, few have blamed the team management for not giving youngsters a chance. After the previous defeat against Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni indicated that he might give a chance to the players who have been bench-warmed in the last few matches.
Imran Tahir, the purple cap holder of IPL-2019, is one such player. He’s been heating up the bank since day one. In the last ten matches, CSK did not give a chance in the 11th match. But now it looks like he too will be named for the next match as CSK’s death over specialist Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the league with a groin injury. This could pave the way for Imran Tahir to make the playing eleven for the first time this season.
Imran Tahir recently opened up about CSK on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube show ‘Hello Dubaiahh’. He named Chennai Super Kings as the best team among the teams he played with. He said that he likes CSK the most. He appreciated the Chennai-based franchise for the respect shown to him. He also talked about the supportive environment in the locker room.
“Chennai is the best team in my heart. I’ve been all over the world. I’ve never seen so much respect from a franchise. I’ve never seen someone take such good care of my family, the Chennai fans are unbelievably nice.” “When I played here, the atmosphere was different. And the main reason is that I like their culture. They don’t talk about the performances and they always support me and that’s what I like about cricket – make it a day and nothing else.”
