Legends League Cricket is back and its second edition is set to take place in and around India. It will see the return of veteran players in the game who have donned their national team jerseys in the past and wowed us with their heroics.

Legends League Cricket Teams Up With Khushii Foundation
Founded by Raman Raheja and Vivek Khushalani, the league is a venture of Absolute Legends Sports Pvt Ltd. Former Indian cricketer and coach of the men’s cricket team, Ravi Shastri is also involved in the entire project as he is the commissioner of the league.
The first edition was held in Oman with three teams named Maharaja of India, Lions of Asia and Giants of the World. Mohammad Kaif, Misbah-ul-Haq and Darren Sammy led the team respectively.
All teams play each other twice in the round robin stage with the top two teams making it to the finals. The World Giants and Asian Lions met in the final where they claimed the inaugural trophy of the league.
After the first success, the league was announced to return again with a new format. Four of the teams will belong to the organizations that will take over the league in terms of money.

Additionally, a special match between Maharaja India and World Giants, with Sourav Ganguly and Eoin Morgan leading the teams respectively, will be played in Kolkata at the Gardens of Eden to kick off the new season.
All Legends League Cricket matches will be telecasted on Star Sports Network.

Four franchises – Adani Sportsline owned by Gujarat Giants, India Capitals of GMR Sports, Manipal Tigers of Manipal Group, and Bhilwara Kings of Bhilwara Group – came together with a purse of INR 32 crore to select 59 stars from the event. Teams choose their captain and are given the opportunity to choose another player of their choice.

Manipal Tigers included Australian all-rounder Brett Lee in their squad while Gujarat picked local hero and former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel. India’s captain is called Ravi Bopara even when Bhilwara Kings chose Yusuf Pathan, who now gets a chance to join his brother Irfan in the tournament.
Gujarat giants are also doing their best to improve their team. As well as Patel, they have selected Sri Lankan wonder spinner Ajantha Mendis and former New Zealand captain and left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori. West Indies batsmen Lendl Simmons is expected to open with captain Virender Sehwag at the top while Mitchell McClenaghan will lead the pace department.

Another Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson will play in the tournament after being selected by India Capitals. The left-handed fast bowler will be supported by former England international Liam Plunkett. The team will also see former South African captain and all-rounder Jacques Kallis in the jersey while Ross Taylor will take over the batting duties from captain Gautam Gambhir.

Apart from Lee, Manipal also picked up the all-round wizard Muttiah Muralitharan. The former Sri Lankan batsman will get a chance to play alongside another loose legend Harbhajan Singh, who is also the captain of the team. Among the players signed by the Tigers are former South African Lance Klusener and former Sri Lankan goalkeeper Romesh Kaluwitherana, who helped his country win the 1996 World Cup.

Cricket League Cricket will be a four-team, 16-match tournament. The league will begin on September 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and will be held in five cities, including Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack & Jodhpur.
