The first name on everyone’s lips is Rashid Khan, except the poor. He is the most famous player in Afghanistan national team for his performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In 2017, Rashid Khan bought Hyderabad for a total of 4 crores. After Mohammed Nabi, he became the second Afghan player to be bought in the IPL auction. His debut was in the first match of the tournament where he took 2 wickets as Sunrisers won. Mohammed Nabi, the first Afghan player to be sold in the IPL auction, went to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 for Rs 30 crore. In 2018, he was again bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a total of 1 crore. Nabi has played 17 matches in the IPL since his debut. The mover took 13 wickets and scored 180 runs at a rate of 151.6. His best bowling figures are 4/11 and economy is 7.13.

Last year, Mohammed Nabi broke the record for most catches in an IPL match by an overseas player. He took 5 catches against Mumbai Indians in one of the last matches of the group stage played on 8th October.

The 20-year-old has already competed in more than 4 countries in national cricket leagues. He is tipped to be a star of the future when he makes it to the national team in the T20 World Cup. Mujeeb-ur Rahman played for Kings XI Punjab in 2018-2020. The all-rounder also holds the distinct record of becoming the youngest cricketer to play in the IPL when he made his debut at the age of 17 years and 11 days in April 2018. Since then, he has played a total of 19 matches. He scored 19 goals and drove in 12 runs. Although he is not known for his batting, his bowling economy is 8.18 and his best catch is 3/27. He joined Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the 2021 season and played 1 match for them.

Just like his namesake, Zahir Khan is another youngster who is on the rise in the coming years. His IPL journey started with Rajasthan Royals in 2018 when he was bought for Rs 60 lakh.

Rashid will lead the Afghanistan side, which is in Group B of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 along with India, England and South Africa, which will be played from October 17 to November 14 in the UAE and Oman.

However, they failed to qualify for the World Cup, but their efforts paid off when they finally regained ODI status in 2009.

The first ODI was played by Afghanistan Cricket Team against Scotland in the 5th match of World Cup Qualifier and won the match by 89 runs. They then won the 2009 ACC 2020 Cup in the United Arab Emirates. In 2010, Afghanistan played their first Twenty20 international against Ireland but lost by 5 goals.
