Cummins did not perform as expected in the recently concluded World Cup and managed to take only three wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of nearly nine. Australia will play the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (February and March) in India in 2023 and the Ashes will be played from June 16 to July 30. The ODI World Cup is scheduled to be held in India in October-November next year. England batsman Sam Billings has also decided not to play IPL 2023 to focus on Test cricket.

The team management added Shardul Thakur via trade ahead of the mega auction. Shardul was earlier part of Delhi Capitals. Before that he showed his mettle for Chennai Superkings. Cummins, signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 7.25 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction, has decided to skip the cash-rich league to manage his affairs ahead of next year’s Ashes World Cup and ODIs.

However, Cummins also hinted that this is not the end of the KKR story in the IPL as he wants to return to power after the next season.

The leading fast bowler was recently named the captain of Australia’s ODI team after Aaron Finch announced his retirement from the 50-over format. The 29-year-old fast bowler from New South Wales will lead the side in the first ODI against England in November.
