Kolkata got off to another sublime start in the chase as openers Venkatesh Iyer (50) and Shubman Gill (51) added 91 to give the team a CSK all-rounder. However, when the pair were separated, KKR were never in the chase.
Thakur’s golden hand worked its magic again. The CSK paceman sent Iyer back in the 11th over as the KKR opener slotted one in the air towards deep point. Jadeja misjudged the skier, but ended up keeping the crucial catch.
As Rahul Tripathi limped off the field during the CSK innings, Nitish Rana came in to bat at no.3. The move didn’t work though. The left-hander clipped one from Thakur who stepped on it just at half-time before he could open his account.

Sunil Narine’s promotion for KKR in the final didn’t pay off either. The pinch hitter hit a short ball from Hazlewood towards deep midwicket. If the catch was made incorrectly, the ball would sail over the ropes. However, Jadeja executed his leap to perfection to plunge KKR further into the chase. Gill reached his half-century off 40 balls with a four from Jadeja, but the task was well done for KKR.
Deepak Chahar ended Gill’s knock on 51 when KKR’s opening full-toss failed, he attempted a scoop, and was caught dead ahead, so much so that the CSK pacer didn’t even bother to appeal and started celebrating from the first of all. At 108 for 4, CSK were very much in the driver’s seat.

Things were much brighter for KKR initially. CSK could send back the dangerous Iyer for a duck. However, Dhoni took advantage of Hazlewood as the left-hander took a good chance. Iyer celebrated his life by pulling the next ball over fine leg for his maximum.
Iyer continued his good form, easing his way to two fours against Chahar in the next over. Knowing that they cannot slow down, the KKR openers kept swinging their bats around. Thakur was introduced in the last over and Iyer hit him for four consecutive overs. The keeper had a gloved pull and a ball down the leg was flicked behind the legs short and fine.
In the last round of the powerplay, Gill came down the track and smacked four extra covers. At 55 for no loss, KKR were very much in the chase.

Dhoni introduced left-arm spinner Jadeja in the 8th over and Iyer edged the last ball for a six. Bringing all his experience into the game, Dwayne Bravo conceded just eight runs in his first two matches to keep the pressure on the KKR debutant.
Iyer started the over by hitting Jadeja for a six over deep square leg. The KKR opener reached another fifty off 31 balls. There was another strange moment as Gill was caught at deep midwicket. However, replays showed that the ball hit the spider and the delivery was declared a dead ball. Gill rubbed salt into CSK’s wounds by smashing Jadeja for two consecutive fours. In the middle overs, KKR reached 88 with the openers still together. It all fell apart pretty quickly though.
KKR’s underperforming middle and lower order revived. Dinesh Karthik pulled the first ball he faced from Chahar over deep backward square leg for a maximum. However, he died to Jadeja for 9, swinging a short ball straight into the hands of deep backward square leg.

The CSK left-arm spinner then found one to slip past batsman Shakib Al Hasan (0) and caught him walking in front of the stumps. From 91 for no loss to 120 for 6, KKR’s innings was dismissed in a manner similar to the collapse against Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2.

The injured Rahul Tripathi, who was responsible for putting KKR in the final with that last six from the over, came out to bat at no.8. He caught Thakur’s bowling at the time after taking two but the game was well beyond KKR’s grasp by then.
Captain Eoin Morgan’s poor campaign with the bat came to a disastrous end when he was cleverly caught by Hazlewood’s Chahar at fine leg for four. He went back and calmly finished the chase.

Shivam Mavi (20) and Lockie Ferguson (18 not out) swung their bats around in the last couple of games but only managed a narrow margin of victory. CSK cares little.
Du Plessis scored a brilliant 86 off 59 balls as CSK posted an impressive 192 for 3 batting first in the final. Put into bat after losing the toss, CSK started strongly again with Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad (32 off 27) adding a crisp 61 for the opener.
Du Plessis was ably supported by blazing cameos from Robin Uthappa (31 off 15) and Moeen Ali (37 not off 20) as CSK never let the KKR bowlers down. On the bowling side, two of their big guns had an off day. Lockie Ferguson went with 56 in four overs and Varun Chakravarthy with 38. Both were also wicketless.

Yesterday Ipl Match Winner
There was a huge moment very early in the final when Dinesh Karthik missed the stumping of Du Plessis when South Africa were second. to collect the ball. The score was 13 when Gaikwad removed the bowler for fours and sixes respectively. A full delivery to deep backward square leg was swept and the next one was pulled to mid-on.
Reaching the boundary at regular intervals, openers CSK were reduced to 50 for no loss at the end of the powerplay. There was some relief for KKR when the prolific Gaikwad cut Sunil Narine to long-on. The joy on the field side was short lived as Uthappa came in and got into action immediately. The veteran batsman hammered Shakib for two sixes in the 10th over – one over long-on and the other over deep midwicket. At 80 for 1, CSK were able to finish with a nice total in the final.
The next one, bowled by Ferguson, went for 17. After slapping the KKR pacer for two boundaries, Du Plessis gave up his fifty from 35 balls by clattering the bowler over long-on for a maximum. Uthappa also hit a few more sixes off the KKR spinners. However, he lost leg before that to Narine, completely missing a premeditated reverse sweep.
